My Honest Skin Care Experience During Pregnancy (Stretch Marks & Self-Love)

To be honest, stretch marks weren’t one of my biggest worries at the beginning of my pregnancy. My mind was completely focused on just one thing:
“Is my baby okay? Am I okay? Will everything be alright?”
Skin concerns didn’t even cross my mind. But as the weeks went by, many family members started telling me, “You should begin using oils and creams now to avoid stretch marks.”

At first, I didn’t panic. Deep inside, I already understood something: my belly would stretch — because my baby was growing. I was creating life! And that came with changes. But this is where social pressure sneaks in — the idea that you have to apply every product out there or else your body won’t “survive” pregnancy. Let me tell you something:
Don’t let those comments stress you out.

Instead, build a gentle skincare routine to care for your body — not because you’re afraid, but because your skin deserves love and hydration. My pregnancy skin care experience wasn’t perfect, but it was real.

Some people give advice from a place of love — accept those. But ignore anything said to scare or shame you. Protect your peace. Create your own little self-care ritual and enjoy it. A warm shower and a belly massage with oil can feel amazing and deeply relaxing — and it just happens to help with skin elasticity too.

Honestly, I don’t know if there’s a magical mom out there who never got a single stretch mark, or if some miracle cream truly worked for her. If so, I’d love to hear about it!
In my case, stretch marks began showing around my back in the sixth month. My bump had stayed small and almost invisible until then, but suddenly it started to grow — and so did my skin.

That’s when I became more consistent. I created a simple night routine after a warm (not hot!) shower:

  • I’d brush my teeth,

  • Detangle my hair,

  • Then massage my belly with my favorite oil or lotion.

Sometimes I used the oil at night and lotion in the morning — and if I remembered, a midday touch-up. But to be honest, I often forgot. Still, I chose not to obsess over it. I was focused on enjoying each moment instead of worrying about every new mark.

Eventually, I noticed more stretch marks — purple ones on my thighs, and some on my breasts. I won’t lie, that’s when fear crept in. Change is scary. Seeing something new on your body is scary. Wondering how your body will look after giving birth… it’s all a little overwhelming.

But those stretch marks? They mean life. They mean love.
They’re the result of months of hard work, of creating someone who will one day be the love of your life.
And when you hold that tiny baby in your arms for the first time, you’ll realize:
The most beautiful marks we carry are the ones that brought our babies to us.

🌿 Products I Loved Using During Pregnancy:
  • Bio-Oil Skincare Oil – for scars and stretch marks

  • NIVEA Cocoa Butter Body Cream

  • NIVEA Intense Healing Lotion – especially for dry areas like thighs and upper arms

I used them not only on my belly but all over — legs, breasts, back. I also tried to drink more water to keep my skin hydrated from within.
