๐ Baby Bath Time: Benefits, Tips & My Real Mom Experience ๐
Bath time can be one of the sweetest, most relaxing moments of the dayโฆ or one of the most nerve-wracking, especially for first-time moms. Every mama has her own rhythm, and the truth is: thereโs no one โrightโ way to do it. Here’s everything Iโve learned about bathing my baby โ from medical advice to what works for us in real life.
๐ผ Bathing Every Day or Every Other Day?
Both are okay! Some pediatricians recommend bathing your baby every other day, especially in the early months, to protect their delicate skin. Others enjoy the routine of a daily bath to relax the baby before bed.
๐ What matters most is choosing what works best for you and your baby. Whether itโs once a week, every three days, or nightly โ if your baby is clean, comfortable and happy, youโre doing it right.
โ ๏ธ Umbilical Cord Care
In the first days (sometimes up to two weeks), itโs best to avoid getting the umbilical cord wet. I started by gently washing just her head with warm water and using a damp cloth for her body.
Once her cord dried up and fell off โ and our pediatrician gave us the okay โ we began full baths.
๐ก๏ธ Ideal Water Temperature
The perfect water temperature is between 36โ37ยฐC (96.8โ98.6ยฐF) โ warm, not hot. You can test it with your elbow or wrist if you donโt have a bath thermometer. If it feels comfortably warm to your skin, youโre good to go!
๐คฒ How to Safely Hold Your Baby
I was terrified at first. Her first bath was in the hospital โ the nurse washed her hair and wiped her body with a warm cloth and baby shampoo. At home, her dad gave her first real bath using the PandaEar Baby Bath Pad for Infant Newborn | Soft Flower Petals for Sink Bathtub Essentials Shower Gift -Pinkย in our bathroom sink โ never the kitchen sink.
It felt super soft, secure and non-slip, which helped me stay calm. I always held her with one hand and used a soft cloth with the other to rinse gently.
Later, as she grew, we switched to a plastic pink baby bathtub placed inside my big bathtub. I pour a little Aveeno shampoo first and then fill the tub with warm water to create a bit of foam. Now that she’s older, I even add a few bath toys (but not in the early months โ safety first!).
โฐ Best Time to Bathe a Baby?
Many moms prefer bath time at night because it helps their baby relax and sleep better โ that was totally true for us!
At first, I bathed her during the day every other day. But then I realized nighttime baths helped her unwind beautifully. Now, her routine is: bath ๐ โ breastmilk bottle ๐ผ โ peaceful sleep ๐ด. She knows the steps and loves it!

๐ For Moms Who Prefer a Different Routineโฆ
Mama, if you prefer bathing your baby once a week or every three days โ thatโs completely okay too. ๐ Every family is different. What truly matters is making it a safe, loving, and comfortable experience for your baby. You are doing an amazing job!
